In a July 3, 1776, letter to his wife, Abigail, John Adams wrote: "...I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great Anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp, shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of the continent to the other, from this time forward forever."Sounds like good advice to me. I hope everyone will find a minute this weekend to stop and think how fortunate we are to live in this great country. And please say a prayer for the men and women who are away from their families and homes defending us all.

Well I would say that John Adams hopes for Independence Day certainly came true! I am so very thankful to live in our free country and not have to deal with the oppression that so many other humans are forced to contend with on a daily basis.
