Highbush Cranberry--April

It's been eleven months since I began this project of monthly photos of the Highbush Cranberry. Some of the berries are still hanging on. We've had nine inches of rain here in New England over the last three days and still they hang on. Our yard is a total quagmire that I slogged through in Paul's boots to get these photos this afternoon. You can see a puddle at the base of the bush.

The berries are still a vibrant color but definitely have seen better days. There are still many bunches that just don't seem to want to give up.

The rain stopped last night and the sun came out this morning in this beautiful blue sky. Here you can see the new growth along side of the old berries.

By next month these buds should pop. What's going to happen to the berries? I don't know. Check back in May to find out.

To see the changes, go to June, July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, and March.

I love this idea! I may have emulate it someday. As soon as I figure out a plant in our yard that I'm even remotely attached to.

This bush is absolutely beautiful.

Gorgeous, as always. I love the green buds pushing through, but I REALLY love the dark reddish hue against the bareness of the brown branch. It's a gorgeous contrast.

They remind me a lot of the wild huckleberries we have here in the NW. I don't know if they're common in NE or not, but the colors are very similar. There's nothing more refreshing than stumbling across these rather elusive berry bushes out in the woods and popping a handful into your mouth. And huckleberry pie? To die for! Beautiful photos, Sandy!

I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the growth through your camera lens. You take the most gorgeous photos. Looking forward to the next metamorphosis.
